Okay, so we’ve been banging on about brand audits on our socials for a couple of weeks now, and mostly because we LOVE doing them! But we realised that maybe not everyone loves them as much as we do… or even knows what they are for that matter

So, what is a Brand Audit?

It sounds kind of scary, like the tax office wants to see all your receipts. But really it's nothing like that at all.

A brand audit is basically a checkup that evaluates your brand's position in the marketplace, its strengths and weaknesses, and how to strengthen it. It helps you to understand how your brand is viewed from an outside perspective #notscaryatall

So what does a Brand Audit, audit?

A brand audit can look different for all businesses, depending on their needs and what they actually have. For example, a brick and mortar store would have more touchpoints to evaluate and audit, such as their storefront, website, socials, branding, packaging etc, compared to an online business that relies on their website, branding and socials.

But as a general guide, a brand audit looks at:

  • Copy: Are you trying to be the fun brand? Or are you aiming to be professional? A brand audit analyses all of your copy across all your mediums and helps to pinpoint whether or not you’re achieving your desired tone. Yep, that’s ALL of your marketing collateral, flyers, website, style guide, adverts - it covers them all.

  • Branding: Are you being consistent with your colour palette and the way you implement your logo? Are you using it the way your designer intended and reaching that desired target market? We go through it all with a fine-tooth comb and point out areas that may need some improvement or where your strengths are and how to continue on that path.

  • Style Guide: We check over your style guide (you’ve totally got one right 😳) to make sure there are no gaps, or that the language around the rules of your brand is being followed - and not finding little loopholes.

  • Social Media: Are you extending your brand guidelines to your socials? Are you using social media to its fullest extent?

  • Collateral: A brand audit even goes so far as to check the finer details. That includes things like your promotional flyers, the posters in your store, shopfront design and right down to your staff uniforms.
